| Our Approach
Our teaching methods
Our programs are designed to fill the unique developmental gaps of the person we support. We use specific teaching strategies to teach targeted skills at the student’s functional level.
Our teaching methods include:
- Verbal Behaviour
- Pivotal Response Training
- Discrete Trial Training
- Natural Environment Teaching
- Self-Management
- Functional Behaviour Assessment
Each of these methodologies falls under the umbrella of Applied Behaviour Analysis.
Your consultant will walk you through all methodologies that are appropriate for your family. By demonstrating and role-playing each program you will gain an in depth understanding
A data-driven program
The program curriculum must change and develop at the learner’s pace. How the learner responds to instruction is closely supervised and recorded as “data.” Consultants review the data collected and adjusts programs as the learner progresses. An ABA program can be fast-paced and filled with change, particularly, in an Early Intensive Behaviour Intervention program. It is important that everyone on the therapy team be fully trained in how to implement the program and any changes. Team meetings and training sessions provide that opportunity.
What about behavioural challenges?
Your consultant will perform Functional Behaviour Assessment [FBA] on specific behaviours that are of concern to your family. Challenging behaviours are typically those behaviours that stand in the way of learning functional skills. The FBA process that is used to understand why the individual is behaving the way he or she does. When the function of the behaviour is understood, it can be addressed by a plan of intervention that will reduce the problem behaviour and replace it with a more appropriate behaviour.
