We use Applied Behaviour Analysis [ABA] to guide our services because it is recognized as a scientifically validated treatment approach for changing social behaviours that are relevant to that individual. For more than 50 years, it has proven to be highly effective for people with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other complex developmental disabilities.

Laurel consultants use an individual and family-centered approach. We consider the needs and preferences of the child (or adult learner) within the context of family life. A family’s culture, values, strengths and support network are all-important factors in tailoring a therapy program that is effective and lasts over time.  Where possible, we provide service in the preferred language of our families. (Chinese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Punjabi, Japanese, and French.)

We are committed to family involvement and support as a core part of our service. Studies have shown that when parents are directly involved in implementing their child’s program, learners tend to have much better outcomes than they would have had without parent involvement. To help families fully participate in the ABA program, we offer ongoing training opportunities.

An ABA program will progress and adapt over time to keep current with the learner’s progress and development. As families gain an understanding of the principles ABA and learn how to apply it at home they build skills that they can use for the long-term development of their child. An effective ABA program is relevant, motivating and fun!
